Changing keyboard configuration for Ubuntu Server

Ever received a Virtualbox image for an Ubuntu Server and found the keyboard to be configured for something other than US English? Probably not … but I have. It’s easy to change:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

Followed by:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup

You can confirm your layout by looking at:

/etc/default/keyboard

Setting up a Z39.50 source in Evergreen

For EG 2.1 a Z39.50 server can be added under Admin -> Server Administration -> Z39.50 Servers. However when you attempt to use that server from Cataloging -> Import record from Z30.50 you’ll find that the input form fields are disabled.

Looking under the hood there are two tables in the config schema defining Z39.50 servers.

z3950_source: containing name, host, port etc.
z3950_attr: containing the CQL mapping.

Assuming the source details are correct adding data to the attr table will do the job. To enable title searching:

INSERT INTO config.z3950_attr (id, source, name, label, code, format, truncation)

VALUES (28, ‘scl’, ‘title’, ‘Title’, 4, 6, 1);

Where source (‘scl’) is the Source name given to the server. The other values are based on the LC profile (which is typical in my experience). There’s plenty to derive from in config.z3950_attr.

Now searching should be enabled for the mapped attributes.
